Ethics & Sustainability
All jewellery is handmade by Merryn in her Sheffield based studio. Precious metals are sourced as recycled metal, where possible, from trusted suppliers. All offcuts and scrap metal generated in the studio are collected and either melted down for reuse or sent to a refinery for recycling. All pieces are made from solid precious metals as it means they will last longer than a lifetime without changing or losing their value, a polishing cloth is provided with silver jewellery to keep your them shiny and free from tarnish, which is naturally occurring.
Gemstones and other materials are chosen with transparency in mind. It is a priority to use suppliers who can explain the origin or supply chain of the stones they sell. When full traceability is not available, which is common in the global gemstone trade, the aim is to choose the most transparent option, and ensure that stones are sourced from conflict free areas. Repurposed or pre-owned gemstones and pearls are used wherever suitable, as they reduce environmental impact by avoiding new extraction. Pre-owned stones are cleaned and assessed for quality and condition before being set into new jewellery.
Packaging is selected to minimise waste. All boxes, bags and printed materials are made from recycled sources, they can be recycled and are biodegradable. The stamp and ink used for branding is plastic free and non toxic. Any Fabrics used are made from natural fibres. Customers are encouraged to reuse or repurpose ribbons and packaging wherever possible.
The aim is to create long-lasting jewellery with materials chosen as responsibly and transparently as possible. I encourage customers to maintain, repair, and cherish their pieces so they can be worn and enjoyed for a lifetime.
